May Favorites ~ Beauty, Etc

It feels like just yesterday I was making my 'Birthday Wishlist', now the month is coming to an end, and that wishlist half-fulfilled. Still grateful & I'm looking forward to the rest of the year....and making new & modified wishlists! ;)
Here are my beauty & other favorites from this May ......

Lipstick BAN!

Phew.
I feel like I'd been running.
My heart - it's beating a mile a minute.
I can do this.
It's not like I'm doing something scary.
Like, bungee jumping....
or giving a Walking Dead walker a makeover!
It's a good thing.
I have a good feeling about it.
I feel rich already!
Maybe I'll buy an IPL team one day.
I know nothing about Cricket, but still.
I'll sit near the field... wearing a white hat with black sunglasses & MAC Ruby Woo.
Very Jacqueline Kennedy - with a modern touch.
Virat Kohli, Nita Ambani, Preity Zinta & Shahrukh Khan will cordially wave hello.
Maybe Forbes will.....
Oh, stop it!

Hello, my fellow lipstick lovers! I'll just rip the band-aid off real quick and say it. I'M BANNING LIPSTICK SHOPPING. Meaning: I will not be buying lipsticks & lip glosses anymore....this year.

Reason for Lipstick Ban: Because I'm looking at bigger things (not IPL team), and I want to start saving. I have a fairly addictive personality, and I hoard quite a lot of things - not just makeup & shoes. Right now, it's furniture & home stuff. So, I feel I need to cut back somewhere. After a lot of pondering and making a number of wretched faces, it's lipsticks that didn't get cancelled out from the list of options. Oh, I'm also reading a book about spending less...taking a good look at where your money goes....how little things add up....blah blah blah. I've only read a few pages, but it has made me feel guilty already.
Just to give an idea of the how things add up part, let's take a look at how much have already gone to lipsticks this year - from the month of January to April only:

 MAC Lipstick- Rs.990
MAC Lipstick - Rs.990
Lancome Lipstick- Rs.1750
Revlon Lipstick - Rs.800
Revlon Lipstick - Rs.800
Revlon Lipstick - Rs.800
Bourjois Lipstick - Rs.995
Maybelline Lip Gloss - Rs.350

Total = Rs.7475.

8 lipsticks in 4 months, which makes it 2 lipsticks per month. If I go at the same rate (possibly more, judging by my MAC & YSL lipstick wishlist), I'll be saving roughly over.....Okay, I'll stop now. We don't really talk about money here. And honestly, we don't really know how to calculate.

Ban Duration:  Till Christmas, or sometime next year. Yes, I'm that serious.

When does it start? Already started. BUT I will - I should - allow myself to buy one to tw---three lipsticks that have long been on my wishlist for my birthday this month. This was a sudden decision, and I never had that last drink! So, it'll officially start from June.

Update: When it's over, I will write a post on how this ban changed my life - if it did.

If you would like to join me in this, then every week we'll take out 3-5 lipsticks that we'll use that week. This way, we show some love to all those lipsticks that we shove to the corner of the drawer because we keep buying new ones.
I'll be picking 5 lipsticks from my stash every week and post pics on my Instagram. I'll try not to cheat & stick to the ones I've picked.

I hope this BAN will inspire you in some way. If not to stop buying stuff and saving, then maybe to make that small change in your life that you have been thinking about.

Good Luck to us all! =D

My 10 Summer Must-Haves

We've started turning on the air conditioners, which means summer is officially here. I used to complain about Delhi summers, until I lived in the UK. There, I would look at the gloomy weather, frequently accompanied by rain, and I'd think to myself 'I'll take the scorching heat, but with bright & cheery skies, in Delhi over this any day.'  I find gloomy weather very depressing! Once, in Newcastle, Mr.CZ called me up, and he told me that our one & only umbrella was attacked by the wind and it had turned inside-out. It wouldn't go back to it's normal shape, no matter how much he tried to fix it, so he threw it on the side of the road and walked back in the rain! =D

Like most of you ladies reading this, I have an endless list of summer must-haves, so I  picked just a few colorful pieces today:

Just Kohl Pencil Smoky Eye Makeup ~ Step-By-Step Tutorial

I've gotten quite a few requests to do a very simple look with no eyeshadow, and with a minimum number of products. So here it is!
(This is also how I start off most of my smoky eye makeup looks, whether I'm using a kohl pencil or a cream eyeshadow.)

1. When using a smudgy kohl pencil, do prime lids with an eyeshadow primer first to prevent creasing. Line outer half of top & bottom lash line. Create a wing at the corner by joining both lines. I used brown, but you can use black or any other color. The kohl just has to be one with a blendable velvety texture.

2. Line inner half of top lash line. It doesn't have to look even and neat, coz you'll be smudging it out.

3. Tightline the inner rim of top lash line right at the base of lashes and fill in any gaps.

4. Now it's time to smudge. With a fairly stiff smudger brush, start smudging the edges of the kohl to diffuse the color. *Your brush should touch ONLY the top edges of the line you've drawn, and try not to go near the roots of your lashes.

5. Gradually move the brush up to the crease line. Work with your eye shape. I have hooded lids, so I go up to where my crease is supposed to be.

6. Also smudge the lower lash line. I didn't all the way in, coz I didn't want my eyes to look smaller.

7. It should look something like that once you're done smudging.

8. A fluffy blending brush will blur out any harsh lines and correct unevenness.

9. Curl lashes & apply mascara on top and bottom lashes....and you're DONE!

More: Dab a shimmery eyeshadow on the center of your lids with your pinky finger. You could also apply a black liquid or gel liner, depending on the look you're going for. You can do anything now that you've achieved the base of any smoky eye.

*(As always, please excuse any errors in the explanations! I usually have to come back and edit.)
I used only 6 products for this look:

Too Faced Shadow Insurance Primer ~ Not shown
Bourjois Kohl & Contour Eye Pencil Brun Design ~ LOVE! Product Of The Week (look on the right sidebar of this blog)
Colorbar Smokin' Eyes Smudger Brush
Shu Uemura Gold Eyelash Curler
L'Oreal Miss Manga Mega Volume Mascara

I hope you found this tutorial helpful & I will be posting the other promised Glitter Tutorial next week!

Btw, did you How I Met Your Mother fans watch the series finale? I watched it last week.

I still can't decide whether I liked the end or not, but I'm not disappointed & angry with it, like a lot of people are =D

A FB status: "I will never forgive them for how they ended HIMYM! I want to cry!!! T_T"

I wonder whom she wanted to cry for.

So! Another tv show is g-o-n-e *sighs*

At least there's still Game Of Thrones!

Voting Day Makeup

Today (I posted late, so it's actually yesterday) was Election Day here in Delhi, so I'd gone to vote for the very first time, ever. I've always wanted to vote, but since I'm wasn't from Delhi, where I spent most of my adult life, I couldn't vote here. My voting card was in my hometown, and I was never there. Now that I'm a permanent resident of Delhi, I have a voting card here. With a photo where my face is elongated like a rugby ball, might I add. Before I ramble more, let's hop to the makeup part......
I kept my makeup quite natural-looking with no black liners. I'm always unsure with this kind of light eye makeup, coz I feel incomplete without a black kohl, but it actually suits my light eyes more than black-rimmed eyes (especially during the day & off camera), if I say so myself.

April Beauty Resolutions

Some people's resolution is to never let Yuvraj Singh bat in such an important match again.
Some people's resolution is to never vote for Congress again.

Mine is simply April Beauty Resolutions with an Apple on the side.

#1 Apply Bio Oil everyday ~ To prevent stretch marks. The ultimate test begins now, since I'm in my 2nd trimester. I've started using it religiously for the last 2 weeks. I hate the smell of Palmer's Cocoa Butter, so I'll be sticking to Bio Oil.

#2  Apply a Face Mask at least once a week ~ My skin has been acting out a lot these days, because of the weather & water change. Not just my face, but my legs and arms too. Right now, I'm using Vichy Normaderm 3-in-1 Cleanser+Scrub+Mask, and I'm liking it a lot. Makes my face feel really clean, smooth & oil-free. But I'll soon stock up on natural/herbal masks, like Multani Mitti (fuller's earth), Sandalwood, etc.

#3 Use Hair Mask every time ~ When I don't use a hair mask, my hair feels drier, so I've decided to use one every time I wash it. I've been using TRESemmé Anti-Breakage Masque for months now, sometimes mixed with my conditioner to cut down shower time. It works well, makes my hair soft & sleek.

Look Of The Day: THE FIRST TIME.....

THE FIRST TIME I'm beauty blogging from our new home. If you've been wondering where I've been, I've been exhausted. If you read my other blog, you'll see what I mean. My hands feel like sandpaper now, after washing them too much. Which reminds me, I have to get a heavy-duty hand cream.

THE FIRST TIME I'm wearing a man's shirt. Men's T-shirts I wear all the time, but this is a first with a crisp shirt. I stole it from the man, and now it's hanging on a floral hanger in my closet, MINE! =D
THE FIRST TIME I'm wearing these makeup products:

Bourjois 1,2,3 Perfect CC Cream #32 Beige Claire ~ Too soon to tell if it'll rock my world, but I like the finish & light-medium coverage.

Bourjois Intense Extrait Eyeshadow #09 ~ Very impressed how soft and pigmented this is. I'm already in love with it, and I see myself wearing it a lot. 09 is a deep mocha brown, which looks a little taupe. I'd also apply it as a liner with a wet brush, like I do the other black shade #10 (swatched here) Because I have hooded lids, eyeshadows hide in the folds, unless I do this......

Lancôme Rouge In Love Rose Boudoir Dupe?

Here is proof that this is my favorite lipstick shade. I've had my eye on Lancôme Rouge In Love Rose Boudoir for months, after trying the first shade I bought, Midnight Rose (post here). When I got Bourjois Rouge Edition Fraise Remix, I fell in love with it, but I didn't realize that the shades are very very similar.....until a couple days ago. Some people might feel disappointed having bought a lipstick shade they already had in the first place, but for dupe-hunting beauty bloggers like myself, it is one of the best feelings. Like you've conquered something. Ya, conquer type of feeling. Like in chess......okay, I know nothing about chess.

Bourjois Glamour Fantasy Perfume Photos

We landed in Indira Gandhi International Airport. Only one thing was on my mind. Something luxury I saw in Amsterdam, but was too expensive. I assumed I'll see the same in India duty-free and it'll be less expensive, and I'll be happy.... and everything will be right with the world again. After standing like a robot in migration, I headed straight to duty-free. Something luxury wasn't available, sadly. Instead, I spotted something I'd blogged about before (here) and had almost forgotten about ~ Bourjois Perfumes. Was disappointed that there were no testers, and I couldn't have a look at what the bottles looked like, but I knew if I didn't buy it then, I may not get my hands on it, coz who knows if they'll launch it in the stores here. Also, there were only 2 types available out of the 4 that were introduced - this & the purple one called Glamour Excessive. I picked this, Glamour Fantasy.
About: This fruity fragrance opens with a gourmet of cherry and raspberry macaroon. In the heart, sweet strawberry & jasmine in a wonderful floral bouquet. In the end, an intense and heady patchouli.

How To Apply False Lashes ~ Step-by-Step Tutorial

I've had quite a few requests for this tutorial, so I wanted to to get it in before this year ends. It's the right time too, I guess, with all the parties coming up. Maybe those of you have never ever worn false lashes can practice now, and be ready to glam up your eyes even more on New Year's Eve!

Step-By-Step Tutorial:
[You can click to enlarge pic]

Step 1: Apply black liquid or gel liner. I'm using Bourjois Liner Feutre Felt Tip Eyeliner.

Step 2: Curl your natural lashes, so they don't fall limp when you layer the false ones on top of them. I'm using Shu Uemura Gold Eyelash Curler.

Step 3: Most times, falsies can be to straight and stiff, so curve the lashes inwards so they mimic the shape of your lash line. This will prevent the ends from sticking out of your lash line. I can't remember which lashes these are exactly, but I think they are Eylure Katy Perry Oh,Honey! which came with the glue. Shown here

Step 4: Glue a dot on both ends of lashes. The ends are most likely to come off, so I like to make sure they're glued properly.

Step 5: Apply glue on the whole band or vein. Try not to smudge it too much on the lashes or they'll stick to your natural lashes. Wait about 20 seconds for the glue to get tacky.

Step 6: Hold them pointing the band downwards and try to place on the center of lash line first. Do it carefully, so the glued ends don't touch your lid.

Step 7: With tweezers or an eyelash applicator, stick the outer end. Do it carefully, so the glued band doesn't touch your lid. I'm using Tweezerman Tweezers.

Step 8: Check if inner end aligns with the starting point of your natural lashes. If it looks too long, pull from outer end. This is easily done when you do it quickly while glue hasn't dried completely.

Step 9: Stick the inner end. See the end point? It won't poke the tear duct.

Step 10: Use the end of your tweezers to press the band down. Make sure there are no gaps.

Step 11: With a finger, lift both your natural and false lashes, and press down to make sure the false lash is sitting close to your natural lash line. Also pinch them both together so the false lashes don't point up too much.

Step 12: The glue usually dries clear, but sometimes you still see white spots. Use black liner to darken the spots.

Step 13: Apply black mascara to blend the false and real lashes together. Coat the base of your natural lashes well. This will stiffen your natural lashes and help them hold up the false ones. I prefer to use an old-ish mascara that's dried up a bit for this.

DONE!

Whimsical Present For A Beauty Blogger/Addict

Pretty Real Flowers ~  They die. I sad.
Pretty Wrapping Paper ~ They tear. I sad.
Both sad situations. Both I try to avoid. Right now, I have a bunch of red roses (shown in my Maybelline Color Show post here) that have dried up, and this feeling I get because I have to throw them out is....is.... not nice. Give me fake flowers and gift bags/boxes (no tape, please.) any day. Speaking of gift bags and boxes, maybe we take our heads out of them, and plonk them into pretty whimsical carry cases.....
I saw this carry case in Woodland Adventure Carry Case at Paperchase (a fun stationery store in UK) many weeks ago, and instantly fell in love with it! But I was skeptical about buying it, because of travelling issues and all. A couple weeks later, I thought: Whatever, I must have it. I went there and saw it's not in the same place it was the last time. I looked and looked around the store, and I found it hiding at the back of one table. Only one of its kind (there were about 5 last time), and I didn't feel good about it. Don't we all like to pick the best piece and usually assume the last one is probably defective? I asked the store assistant if they had another one.
She: "You want to buy 2 of them?"
Me: "No. Actually, there's a scratch on this one. Look.", I pointed to an almost undetectable silver hairline scratch on the box. Yes, it was quite a moo point, and I would've bought it if I had no other choice.
She: "Okay, I'll go check in the back for you, but we may be out of them."

She came back in 5 mins with the only one left in stock. It was wrapped nicely in transparent plastic bag which was twisted into a ruffle at the end (like a sack) and tied with a golden plastic ribbon. Brand new, unopened, untouched. I had to stop myself from jumping and clapping, and delightfully squealing "Ooh, me likey!"

Bourjois Goodies + FREE Gold Leaf Top Coat

I ran to the end of the mall where Debenhams is to get the Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette. It wasn't launched yet, even though I heard it's been seen in counters. SA said she hoped it'll be in by this Saturday, she crossed her fingers. She also blissfully closed her eyes to show me she's wearing it, said she got it as a gift from the brand. This was the second time I left there feeling super disappointed, and this time I wished I was a UD SA.
I also ran to 2 H&M stores to get a much-needed warm black coat, which is also the only coat I like (length & shape fit for petites). Not available in 1st store, only one Size 14 available in 2nd store (which is next to Debenhams).
Then I ran to Superdrug to see if the Mascara with a bow  & Revlon Matte Balm Stains have been launched. They weren't. I stood there for a while. I could either walk another 20 mins home empty-handed, or.....

How to Expand Bottom Lashes | Bourjois Color Edition 24H Cream Shadow Swatches, EOTD

Have you ever seen my bottom lashes that thick and multiplied? NO. Most of the time, they just look like....like....a drunk anorexic spider's legs. You can go check out the Makeup Tutorials Tab if you want to see them in all my eye pics.
I'll tell you how I made them look like that in a minute. First, let's talk about the new Bourjois Color Edition 24H Cream To Powder Eyeshadow. The color I got is #04 Kaki Cheri, a khaki green shade with gold shimmer.
It is different from Maybelline Color Tattoo & MAC Paintpot. At the top of my head, it has a more spongy texture. I like it A LOT. It has a silky texture, is super easy to blend & never creases. It turns into a powder finish and lasts all day.

Too Many Cuties.....

TOO MANY! E-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e I turn there's something cute....and pretty....and dreamy....and unaffordable.

Bourjois Glamour Perfumes ~ Good Gawd! I wouldn't know which one to choose! Chic, Lovely, Excessive, Fantasy....probably Lovely....no, Fantasy....maybe Excessive...Chic too....ahhhh.... leave me alone!
Benefit Lolli Tint ~ A lollipop pink lip & cheek tint, like the Benetint.

Haul: Makeup, Primark 'The Wonder Wrap'

You may be surprised with the photos today. I clicked them at night with flash. It starts getting dark at 4 pm here these days, I think I may have to do it often. So....I dropped in Boots & Primark today, and got a few things....
  • Maybelline Color Show Brocades Collection in Knitted Gold ~ So gorgeous I couldn't resist! It's like sequins with pink and gold bits. Price: £3.99 | Rs.402
  • Maybelline Color Show Vintage Leather Collection in Turquoise Temptation ~ This is a matte-like leather finish nail polish. Price: £2.99 | Rs.300
  • Rimmel Lasting Colour Rush Balm in Give Me A Cuddle ~ Another lip crayon to try. I love that name! Price: £5.99 | Rs.603.
  • Bourjois Color Edition 24hr Eyeshadow in Kaki Cheri #04 ~ This is a cream to powder eyeshadow, somewhat like the Maybelline 24hr Color Tattoo, but it definitely feels different. I picked the most unique color- khaki green with gold shimmer. It's available in gold, plum/prune, silver, electric blue, pink champagne. See all here. Price: £6.99 | Rs.704.
*3 for 2 offer at Boots.
Primark The Wonder Wrap  ~ I saw this a week ago when I'd gone to get my ghost nightie, but I didn't buy it, although there was only one Size 6-8 left (because I wasn't really supposed to shop, okay.). I though, 'Eh, I'll come another day. I'm sure they'll restock the sizes.' WRONG! I kept going to check after that but only big sizes were there. Today, I decided to just pick up Size 10-12, which is about 2-3 inches bigger than the smaller size. Size 6-8 was available in other prints, but I wanted this pink lips one. It's basically a dress towel that you secure with velcro in the front. Price: £7 | Rs.706.
Moral: ALWAYS buy it if it's the last one left! You can be sensible another time.
Primark Hair Turban ~ Last time I thought, 'Okay, I'll buy that turban only if I get the Wonder Wrap. Matching!' This turban is available in a few other colors too, including hot pink, No, it's not the same pink as the lips on the wrap, so I picked white instead =D. Price: £1.50 | Rs.150
Uff, now I'm not liking this posing photo. Trying on the wrap. It has to be cinched/pulled a little more towards one side, but it's fine. See, it even has a heart pocket! ♥

Please excuse my hurrr. I was supposed to pick up some hair color too, but it was already closing time. It really needs to be refreshed. Trimmed too, but that's another frustrating story.
Next time, I will wear Wonder Wrap & turban....apply face mask and body scrub on arms and legs.... I'll  stand in balcony  front of the mirror....hold a hairbrush like a microphone....and sing....Tu Mile....Dil Khile....I came in like a wrecking ball.....

Happy Friday, everyone! Gonna watch 2 movies tonight- Hours & Paranoia.
