Makeup Haul: Smashbox, Lakmé, Maybelline

You know that feeling when you buy a new shampoo & matching conditioner, and you just can't wait to try them out? You even oil your hair prior to washing, in the hope that the possible hair transformation will be.....mind-blowing! You start out with the shampoo...it doesn't lather....you think: 'Oh, it's because of the oil.', so you squeeze out some more shampoo....and work it into your hair - more vigorously this time....still doesn't lather.... then you instinctively look at the bottle... it's conditioner! You'd mistakenly bought 2 conditioners!
Yes, people. Thankfully, the other conditioner is a 75 ml one. I thought I bought a big shampoo and a small conditioner. Okay, enough about that. I'm over it. Or I'm just distracted with other things......

The Worst Beauty Products

Hope you're all doing well. Today, I'll be showing you some of The Worst Beauty Products I've ever used.

*Please note: I'd used these products for a considerable amount of time, and I did give them the benefit of the doubt before I made up my mind. Also, they might have not worked for me personally, but it's very possible that they're wonderful products for others. That's one of the reasons why most of the ones mentioned are still flying off the shelves.

  1. Colorbar I-Define Pencil (Midnight Black) ~ Hard & dry. Would work better on paper, not eyes.
  2. Inglot Gel Liner (Shade 75 Purple) - Not creamy enough, and dried up before the gel liners I bought way before it. I was gonna use it this one time, and found a purple rock!
  3. Smashbox Photo Finish Primer ~ Caused big painful cystic pimples. It feels like a dream, but works like a nightmare.
  4. Bourjois Elastic Mascara ~ No volume, lashes looked uneven in length & the formula burned my eyes. By far, the worst mascara I've ever used.
  5. Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Blush (Shade #6 Quickie) ~ Dried up before I'd even used it properly. I was shocked! Really not worth $26 (Rs.1400) You are better off mixing a powder blush with moisturizer.
  6. The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Lotion ~ Extremely drying & it neither prevented nor cured pimples. The only thing it cleared up was all the moisture from my skin. On nights when I used it, I was afraid I'd wake up in the morning and see my skin had cracked!
  7. Revlon Colorsilk Luminista Hair Color (Medium Blonde 175) ~ Burned my scalp like a chilly paste during developing time. Had the color not turned out brassy, the unexpected sting would have been so worth it.
  8.  L'Oreal Re-Nutrition Shampoo + Conditioner ~ Re-Name, Re-Grease, Re-Dull.

I told you mine. Please tell me yours!

Purple Lipstick Suggestions ~ From A Reader

After my Lipsticks That Don't Exist post, I got a very helpful comment from a reader- Perween.

Hey Cynthia, I love going through your blog. You have a great knack for writing that is not only informative but has a wonderful sense of humour. After reading this post I took it upon myself to hunt for a violet lipstick for you. I went to Sephora today and came across these lipsticks that may match the second picture:
  • MUFE - Rouge Artist Intense Lipstick, Shade #15 - Pearly Violet
  • Smashbox – Be Legendary Lipstick, Shade – Bold Berry (vivid violet)
  • Dior – Rouge Dior Lipstick, Shade 786- Mysterious Mauve
  • Dior – High Fashion Lipstick, Shade 001, Violet Tatoo

Isn't that the sweetest thing?! :) ♥

I couldn't find good photos of all the lippies on Google, so I just  put up these to give you all an idea....

I am definitely going to get Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Intense #15.

Thanks Perween! I really appreciate your very kind & thoughtful effort.

Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer ~ The Ugly Truth

Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer was part of the Smashbox Superstars that I got last year. I've been using this primer since then, and the first 2-3 times I thought it's one of the best products ever! It minimized my pores & made my skin so silky and smooth!

And then when I used it after that, maybe in early December, I got the most painful and angry pimples I've ever had on my forehead near my hairline, and on my chin- which left a scar! This is because it has Dimethicone, better known as Silicone, which is known to clog pores and cause breakouts.

Still, I wasn't ready to give up on it, so on Friday, I used it again and the next morning, ta-da two pimples again- on my forehead and cheek area near my nose where the larger pores are. Sigh! But this time, they are small and not so painful.

Loving The Smashbox Superstars

Meet the Smashbox collection of superstar products ~ all in  portable travel sizes to give you a flawless face at home or on the go!
These are cult favorites and the most popular Smashbox products, which include:
  • Bionic Mascara in Jet Black
  • Reflection High Shine Lip Gloss
  • O-Glow Intuitive Cheek Color
  • Photo Finish Foundation Primer
  • Fusion Soft Lights in Baked Starburst
It also comes with a Smashbox make-up artists booklet (which I've misplaced) of very interesting & useful makeup tips! I learnt quite a few things from it =)

I am in love with all these products from the Smashbox TRY ME Vol.2 Superstars, especially the Photo Finish Primer & O-Glow.

I bought this for about Rs.2430, which I think is not bad for 5 products. Since I've never tried any Smashbox stuff, I'm happy I got this coz I get to try a bunch of products all at once.
