Confessions Of A 1st Time Mommy-To-Be | Q&A

Me: Are you a Girl?
Baby CZ: KICK!
Me: Really?!
Baby CZ: KICK!
Me: Are you a Boy?
Baby CZ: *Silence*
Me: Are you a Boy???
Baby CZ: *Silence*
Me: Okay....Uhm....Is Justin Bieber your father?
Baby CZ: KICK!

*****

See, it's messing with me already! =D

So I've had a few requests to do more pregnancy posts, and I've meaning to, but then the days & weeks just flew by so fast! Hello, only 3.5 months left this year?!! I got an email from Babycenter saying my baby is coming in 2 weeks, and I'm freaking out!

In this post, I'll just do a Q&A, and let you know what's been going on. Bluntly & honestly.....

How far along are you? Today is the start of my 37th Week! My due date is 8th October. During the Down's Syndrome scan, they changed the due date to 13th October. My Doc said any day after 25th September. So we'll just have to wait and see. I kind of wanted it to be a Virgo baby ;)

How long have you been married before you decided to have a baby? 7 years. Ever since, I've been asked if I have any kids....How come I don't have kids?....When I'll give "Good News"???....It was irritating. Like the main purpose of marriage is to procreate!

Have you always wanted to have a baby? Not so much. It took a long time for me to get here. Same time last year, I'd decided that maybe...maybe...there'll never be room for it in my life. I believe people could be happy & content without children (or marriage, for that matter.)  I liked my independence & I loved my life just the way it was. On top of that, I had a crappy childhood myself, so starting a family was never on my priorities list. And then whenever I thought, 'Okay, maybe I'll have one...I'm ready!', I'll get annoyed with some kid who's constantly kicking my airplane seat from behind, or another kid crying loudly & throwing a tantrum somewhere, or some rowdy kids pulling down handbags at a store. Last year, in UK, almost every kid and baby in a stroller smiled or giggled at me, for some reason. I took it a GO sign.

Am I really ready? I thought I should say this after the previous paragraph. Yes, now I'm READY, and I'm very excited to meet my baby and experience the BIG change. Whatever happens, I'm going to make sure it has the best childhood and life. I'll let it eat Ice Cream whenever it wants!

How many babies do you want? Just ONE. This is my One & Only baby.

Do you know when exactly Baby CZ was conceived? Yes. Edinburgh, Scotland. Our last day in the UK ;) =D

Can you color hair during pregnancy? This is a debatable topic. I'd say absolutely not during the 1st Trimester. I guess in later months, you could if you use hair colors without too much chemicals & ammonia. I haven't colored my hair because I can wait. Plus, I have a history of coloring & re-coloring in a matter of days, so it's just a bad idea during pregnancy. The best person to ask is your doctor....and, of course, trust your own instinct.

What are absolute NO NO's? No drinking, smoking, drugs. Avoid very spicy foods & too much caffeine.

Do you want a BOY or a GIRL? This is the most asked question. I wouldn't mind either. It would be fun to dress up a girl, but I'd worry less if it's a boy We live in the most unsafe city (Delhi) for women, after all =\

What type of Mom do you think you'll be? I think I'll be a fun & friendly mom, but I'll also be a disciplinary mom who'll not think twice about slapping it if it kicks other people's airplane seats if he/she still does it even after it's been told not to do it.

Do you have baby names yet? Oh Gosh, no! I don't have any in mind. I have named a few babies, but now that it's my own....nothing! Right now, I call it 'Bubbles'. That word just popped (or flew) into my head the first time it started kicking.

Made a Birthing Plan? Natural. Caesarean only if absolutely necessary. NO Forceps, NO Vacuum. Thanks to Babycenter app for educating me about these birthing procedures. I've heard horror stories about Forceps babies!

Strong feelings are common during pregnancy. Do you HATE anyone/anything? I just can't stand a number of people - grownups & kids too. I can't say who exactly, because some of them might be reading my blog. I just avoid them as much as possible. I've said before that I hate Ray from Everybody Loves Raymond, and have stopped watching the show, at least for now because I enjoy watching the show otherwise. I hate unnecessary phone calls. I hate people who talk about money all the time. I hate heat. I hate computers*

Okay, enough Hate. What about LOVE & Crushes? Oh, lots! I love to clean bathrooms & sinks. I'm really loving shopping online these days (I'm heading to Ebay later!) I love to read & nap. I'm attracted to vintage & floral things. I love looking at beautiful home/decor pictures. Crushes? Well..... ;)

Necessary Beauty Products? a). Bio Oil on my baby bump & hips twice a day (to prevent stretch marks) - I'd been using it religiously since the beginning & have gone through 4-5 60 ml bottles already. b). Aloe Vera Lotion on my hands & feet before going to bed to cool down my skin & reduce swelling. c). Hair Mask once a week. Aside from those, I've kept my beauty routine very simple and low maintenance.

Beauty Products I'm Avoiding? I've stopped using Toners, coz I couldn't stand the smell of alcohol. I don't need them anyways, because my skin, although dull-looking, hasn't been misbehaving too much. I use products with Salicylic Acid only if I have a pimple.

Best things about pregnancy? It's changing how I feel. Things that used to be important don't seem so important anymore. I feel less selfish. I've stopped putting too much pressure on myself. I'm calmer and less fussy. Feeling very pampered, yes. Hubby says, "I don't know who'll be a bigger baby. the real baby or........" .  And yes, those kicks - they're enough. For me, I'm carrying a very understanding baby. It's like it knows what's good & bad for me.

Worst things about pregnancy? I was lucky that I didn't have nausea & morning sickness, or any of the common pregnancy woes (touchwood!). But lots of women experience these symptoms throughout their pregnancy, and I can't imagine what they must go through. There are many other restrictions too. To name one, you can't sleep on your back (in later months), which is why I find sleeping very uneasy these days and I'm not feeling very rested. They say you have to sleep on your left side for better blood circulation to your own heart & the baby. So many times, I find myself sleeping on my back, I have trouble breathing and get this horrid twisty feeling on my calf muscles. Plus, the constant fear that my sleeping position is suffocating the baby! Pregnancy comes with Pros and Cons, so don't let people fool you into thinking it's the most wonderful experience in life, because for a lot of people it's not. It's scary. Seriously, hats off to all the ladies who go through this more than once or twice!

Mr.CZ & Baby CZ:  Baby CZ is already exactly like Mr.CZ. Liking all the foods he likes i.e. sweets (proof below). In a way, they're very attached to each other. Mr.CZ doesn't let me leave the room (I get up from the couch, and he'll be like, "Where are you going??")  He goes for a jog, and I tell him, "I'll give you only 15 mins." These days, Baby CZ starts moving and kicking really early in the mornings, and Mr.CZ also wakes up at the same time, and he can't sleep anymore. So weird. Both of them. Same biological clock, same taste buds. Oh, and same clothes! I'm wearing only his t-shirts & boxer shorts too these days...hehe! ;p

Any daily pregnancy routines? Yes, four......

Almonds: First things I eat (before breakfast) are 5 almonds soaked overnight. This tip has been passed on for generations in India. They say that almonds make the baby intelligent, have good skin & hair and what not. There are different types, and the best ones are called 'Mamra Giri'. I tried some other ones recently, and they were very dry and not as tasty.
Multi-Vitamins: Calcium, Iron, Vitamin D.
Arginine Powder: Comes in sachets. 1 sachet everyday or every other day.

Mother's Horlicks: I drink 1 cup every night before bedtime. The plain "Original" version seem to be out of stock in most stores every time. Maybe they're discontinuing it. Now I see only Vanilla flavor, which I didn't like at all!

Any Cravings? Surprisingly, mostly sweet things. I've told you I'm not a fan of chocolates & desserts, right? Well, now things have changed.....

Chocobar Ice Cream ~ My weakness.

Toast & Kissan Mixed Fruit Jam ~ Everyday.

Thriller/Suspense Novels ~ I can't get enough of them.

And my new-found love, Paris Brest from L'Opera....

It's that round crispy donut-like thingy with cream filling.

I LOVE it! I must say, this bakery is amazing and legit, not like those French bakery wannabes.....

We'd gone to pick up pastries for Mr.CZ's birthday on the 12th. He wanted to make a wish on a Mille Feuille (on the extreme left)

Like a balloon! =D

How much weight have you gained? So far, 10-11kg.

Where's the dress from? ZARA. I'd been eyeing it since it was full price. During Sale time, it was half off! I found a few pieces, but Small size wasn't on the rack. I thought about picking a Medium, but then a thought came to mind - like a sixth sense. I walked to the trial room, popped only my head from one corner because there was a long queue of bargain shoppers, and I asked if by any chance there's a S size in there. And yes, one was hanging on a rack. Just waiting for me...haha!

And we have a Shopping Tip: If your size is not on the rack, go look for it in the Trial Room! =D

Now I'll exit the Confessions Booth. Hope you liked reading this post. If I sound a lil' out of it, it's probably because I am.

*Since I hate computers, I've not been in the mood to do much work on it . I'd done 2 makeup tutorials in 2 weeks, and didn't want to edit the pictures!  This post was supposed to be up last Wednesday! I just can't think...or concentrate. I've fallen into this habit of writing blog posts and not posting. So please bear with me =)

Posting will be very inconsistent, but I promise, I won't be gone for more than 5-7 days.

Talk to you again shortly.

  2. I hope you have a safe delivery, can't wait for baby CZ to arrive. Which horror/thriller novels have you been reading?? I love the Zara dress you are wearing, it is so cute, I try to find sizes in the trial room too, especially during sales, I never trust the SAs when they say they don't have the sizes. I love the way you have decorated your vanity, but doesn't it get dusty, the makeup brushes and the shoes? How do you keep them clean?

  5. Wish you a safe, normal delivery. And all the best for the roller -coaster adventure later.

I used to talk to baby too. In the last month, I kept asking "baby, are u coming on 20th?...21st...all the way till 27th. And each time, baby only kicked on 24. Hubby thought I was mad when I said I would be in the hospital on 24th, but my son did come on 24th. Try it ;)

  14. This is such a nice post.

I really appreciate the fact that you were upfront about not wanting babies. I will be honest, even though I love babies, I never want to have them myself when I get married - I get worried about all the responsibilities they come with. But, living in India, I don't know if that's really my option! Here people EXPECT you to have babies, expect you to conform to their stupid expectations of being a woman. I hate that, it makes me feel like I won't have a choice in the matter. But given a choice I don't know if I really want one. I know I am won't be ready for another 10 years, but I really don't know if its my choice.

I am so happy you have come to love your baby so much. Congrats and I cant wait to see his/her pictures[I hope you will post them] :*

    1. I totally agree! In India, you're not given a choice! Even I don't want one because I find it so scary >.< Plus all the responsibilities!

    2. @Sahana: You shouldn't think about other people's expectations. You can have it when you're ready & really want it. It should always be your choice! There'll come a day when you'll think - 'It's now or never', you'll know then. Don't worry, just enjoy your freedom, and go with the flow :)

  21. Hey CZ, this was so much fun to read. I am glad u did not face any pregnancy woes and I hope you have a safe and easy delivery too, and post baby period too :D And forceps is not that bad, I have been born through forceps, it just gives a slight pull and becomes a little easier for mothers, but no harm as such.

P.S: I always search for items in trial rooms when I do not find my size :p
