HELLO! First of all, I missed you all!!! I feel like I haven't blogged for many months! And if you don't follow my Instagram & Facebook Page and was wondering where me & my baby disappeared to, Baby CZ is a BOY!!! High 5 to all of you who've been commenting "I think it's a Boy." =)
And I kinda knew from the beginning - more on that at the end of this
post. Since some of you want a delivery story, I'll quickly jot down the
highlights (Sorry in advance for any typos & if my story-telling seem rushed!) .....
Date Of Birth: 14.10.14
Gestation: 40weeks + 5 days
Time of Birth: 11:04 am
Birth Weight: 3.21 kgs (A little shocking, because most thought I'd have a small-ish baby around 2.5 kgs)
Head Circumference: 35cm
Length: 50.5cm
He's asleep most of the time, so I don't have many pics where his eyes open. This I took when he had just woken up =D (Yes, Mommy can't wait till she can put styling wax on his hair!)
Can't say what his eye color will be, but right now they are a greyish.
The Previous Day, 13.10.14:I checked into the hospital at around 3:00 pm for induction. They were gonna induce me the whole night. Which means they'll insert a gel every 6 hours up to 3 times. If I had to describe the pain, I'd say it was like Mary Kom put in a gloved hand and twisted it.
The contractions came only after midnight. But they were mild. The only burning pain I felt was around my rib cage & upper back. Nothing in my abdomen area.
The next morning, around 9:30-10:00 am, baby still hadn't descended further down & baby's heart rate had dropped to 120 and below, so Doc had to rupture the water. There was Mary Kom again - this time, she was more furious. Water broke, and tears followed. I cried like a little child! But quietly, like a lady. Because of the excruciating pain yes, but more because I was feeling something else I couldn't quite name. I was on an emotional roller coaster.
Long story short, I had to go in for a C-Section, because even 1 hour after the water was ruptured, nothing changed much.
***Edited: I forgot to mention that the last ultrasound showed the Nuchal Cord was wrapped once around my baby's neck. That's why I was more worried.
One hour later I was in the Operation Theatre. They injected the local anesthesia in my spine...I was laid down...this time, there was a bigger audience...males, females....my hooha on the table for all to see....(Ladies, really, leave your shame outside the hospital door...haha!) ....they were all prepared to operate....I was conscious....Mr.CZ was beside me in his scrubs....BUT THEN I could still feel everything....I felt numbness, but I could still feel- the local anesthesia didn't work on me. So they had to put me out completely, and Mr.CZ had to leave the room.
Next thing I remember was a male doctor/anesthesiologist calling my name. I couldn't see him, everything was blurry.
Me: It's done? Baby is okay?
Doc: Yes, baby's okay.
Me: Is it a Boy or a Girl?
Doc: It's a Boy.
Later, we asked the Doctor why baby refused to come out naturally, and she told us it's because the baby was in a Posterior Position - his spine was against my spine, instead of opposite. I asked how come they didn't see this in the Ultrasound I had done a few days back, and she said they couldn't have known until they were in there. Was it an oversight? I don't know.
About Posterior Position via Baby Center:
Mothers whose babies are face-up at birth tend to push longer, more commonly need Pitocin to stimulate contractions, and have a significantly higher risk of having an assisted vaginal delivery or a c-section. They also have a greater risk of a postpartum hemorrhage.
Those who do give birth vaginally to a baby who is posterior are more likely to have an episiotomy and severe perineal tears than moms whose babies are in the more favorable face-down position, even after taking into account the higher rate of forceps and vacuum-assisted delivery.
The posterior position at birth also is associated with a higher risk of short-term complications for the baby, such as lower five-minute Apgar scores, an greater likelihood of needing to be admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit, and a longer hospital stay.
Now I know I made the right choice by opting for a Caesarean. I couldn't put him through all that trauma. On top of that, look at the size of his head! =D =D
Mr.CZ & Mr.CZ Junior
How I knew it's a BOY?
#1: I got more hairy! Hair grew faster on my arms, legs & tummy. Even the baby hair around my forehead looked thicker.
#2: I was rarely moody & impatient.
#3: My linea nigra was dark and, in the last couple of months, went all the way till my rib cage.
#4: The Ring Test. It didn't dance around, it hardly moved. All the 3 times we did it.
#5: In the 3D ultrasound view (done in September), baby looked more boyish. He looked a little like my brother.
#6: And finally, MOTHER'S INSTINCT. They weren't kidding about that! ;)

So that's my birth story and my Bubbles. Will get better pics of him when he's awake more.
During my stay at the hospital, I got irritated at about 4 nurses & 3 Doctors - especially one counsellor who wanted me to break down the minute I reached my room after the operation & the very first time I saw Baby CZ:
She: You can talk to me. How are you feeling?
Me: I'm emotional right now because I can't hold my baby. That's all.
She: Ya, I can understand (sorry look on her heavily-kohled eyes) You also have to think about/take care of yourself.
Me: I always take care of myself. If you're worried about Postpartum Depression, I don't have it. I'll be fine.
She: Okay, I'll come back tomorrow.
She never came back. She knew I wasn't going to be a future patient of hers.
Okies, talk again soon! More regular blogging from next week!
THANK YOU so much for wishing us well & all the love. I was very touched by all the comments, messages & emails by everyone who were concerned about us. Hugs & lots of love to all of you <333
P.S: No, we haven't found a name yet. Hopefully, we'll soon find one both Mr.CZ & I like. We're into fusion names.

ReplyDeleteOMG!! So so cute he is! My niece was also in a Posterior Position and hence sis in law was operated. Even I thought you would have a small-ish baby. The weight is amazing :D And good luck for motherhood :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! he's adorable!!
ReplyDeleteYou know my kiddo was in the posterior position as well and her head wasn't dropping either. My aunt who is a gynaec told me to ask the doctor upfront because she knew that the doctors induce first. When I asked my doctor clearly she mentioned the above points. That moment both my husband and I decided that we will opt for surgery. No point in going thru twice the pain.
Hez handsome :D Take care of yourself and looking forward for more from you :)

ReplyDeleteAww congratulations!
ReplyDeleteMy second daughter was posterior, I had to be induced and it just took forever to start up. From 8am to 6pm very little happened and so they had to break my waters which was just HORRIBLE! oh god. After that it started to flow on better and she was born at 1.45 in the morning but pushing was such a bugger. Every time I'd push she'd come out a little bit but then soon as I'd stop she'd apparently slip back in LOL! I laugh now... but she was born eventually, no tears or cuts and no problems but she did have a little cone head for half a day lol
ahh the joys of birth! my first was easy as anything so I figured I was due a little bit more difficulty with my second lol
Your son is gorgeous :D he'll just sleep most of the time for about a month then it'll change.. never get used to routine because he will change ALL the time just to be difficult haha xx
Congratulations CZ. Baby CZ is so cute :D
ReplyDeleteA big big congratulation CZ... Baby CZ looks incredibly adorable. He is a cutie pie. <3 . I can look at the pic.. where he was sleeping like an angel the whole day
ReplyDeleteAnd I must say, the only thing that scares the heck out of me about pregnancy is
...exactly what you said
".I was layed down...this time, there was a bigger audience...males, females....my hooha on the table for all to see...."
OMG.. I'm really scared of the future.
