Superstitious Beauty ~ Using Your Index Finger Is Bad?

I grew up in a culture of many superstitions. We take sayings of old people so seriously that we  had to memorize them for exams in school. But this one about the index finger is not from the books we studied, it's just a superstition I grew up with.
What they say: Never apply medicine with your index finger, coz it'll make it worse/antagonize the problem. Use this (middle finger) instead. (Btw, this generation consider that finger very bad too, grannies!)
Do I believe in it? I have never used my index finger to apply anything, especially on pimples. I don't use it to apply scrub, eye cream, moisturizer, eyeshadow primer & all makeup. I use it along with other fingers, but not just the index finger alone. Even on other people I don't use it. So ya, I guess I believe in it =)
Pointing with your index finger is also considered a bad thing. "Don't point! Don't point like that!", I would be scolded when I was young.
Is there a scientific reason behind this?  I don't always believe in science, so I have no idea. You could google it, if you're curious.
Have you heard about this? Any superstitious sayings you believe in? I'd love to hear them!

  1. What do you mean by saying that you don't believe in science? Everything in science is factual, unlike religion and superstitions :)

    1. I said I don't "always" believe in science. Same with superstitions. I definitely don't believe in religion :)

  3. "don't point' ... well I think it;s not superstition, perhaps because it'de rude to point at someone and talk about that person :P

  4. Aww.. I am never impartial to any of my fingers! They are all the same with the strategic use of the middle finger *wink* Anyway I agree it is rude to pint fingers. Don't believe in anything else!

  7. Oh Never knew this! I'm not superstitious but I believe most of our traditions are based of science and logic. Some we may understand now, some later and some never. I'm gonna google/research this one, and start using [NOT using lol] once I find a reason :)

  8. You know what just the other day I recalled that you had written about this and whilst doing my makeup, I realized that there is more to it than superstition! I thought I'd comment on this post of yours but obviously didn't get around hunting for it ;) Good thing you posted the link again. I noticed that the index finger pad is rather flat as compared to the others which are plumper. This makes picking up and applying products difficult and if you have long nails, they'll get jammed with all the product very quickly. That ways, the ring finger works better.
As Hindus, we were always asked to not use the index finger to put tika/tilak.

I ♥ finding little notes in my Vanity Case, so do drop one. I read all of them & I try my best to reply to each & every one of them [check back in 2-3 days =D] but most times it's physically impossible! Either way, I love to hear from you & really appreciate you taking the time out to share your thoughts <3

Thank you for reading! :)
