Scar Treatment~Bio Oil Vs Mederma Vs Palmer's Cocoa Butter: Verdict

In October last year I wrote a post about Scars and Stretch Marks Removal (Click to read the post)
That's 7 months ago. I think that's a good amount of time to know which products work and which needs to be thrown out (or moved to the back of your vanity cabinet)

Bio Oil ~ I like it a lot. It has become my HG (Holy Grail) right after shower product. It has softened my scar and lightened some dark patches completely. I use it to massage my face too, and it doesn't break me out even though I have oily/combination skin. A drop of it goes a long way, which makes the little bottle last you quite a long time. The oil is thin verging on runny, so the skin absorbs it quite easily. I'm very impressed with it's performance so far. It WORKS!
Rating~ ♥♥♥♥♥

Mederma ~ The first thing I noticed when using Mederma is that it makes the area where I apply it very itchy sometimes. Which means it's doing it's job, I reckon. This tube is my second. It does soften scar tissue, but I didn't notice any lightening. I really like the gel-like slippery texture of Mederma, and I think that's why I keep going back to it. I *believe* it is working.
Rating~ ♥♥♥♥

Palmer's Cocoa Butter ~ This is only okay for me. I'd say it's 'mediocre at best' (In Simon Cowell's tone =D) and I'm not too fond of the smell either. However, it is thick, moisturizing and quite soothing for dry skin. It did not do anything for the few stretch marks I have, but we all know too well that once stretch marks turn white, it's very hard to remove them. So, there's no point expecting wonders from this or any product for that matter. I use the balm (3rd one in the pic) on my hands and lips. Not bad but not great either. I don't know what else to say about it, so I'll just move on and rate it....
Rating~ ♥♥♥♥♥

~Verdict~
I'll will be stocking up on Bio Oil, finish my second tube of Mederma and then buy another tube. No more Palmer's Cocoa Butter for me, unless maybe....nah, I don't think so.

So, have you tried any of these yet? Worked? Or, you don't need them? In that case, I'm so very J :p and do share your skincare routine. Please!

  5. @Ki~ I don't think it's available in Delhi Ki. I guess if u want instant results, then a chemical peel or laser is a better option, depending on the type of scar. If it's not a very ugly scar then better not do anything in haste. Weigh yr options.

  6. I might get it online then... I don't mind something natural. But no laser and peels for me. My fiance doesn't mind the scar one bit. :)

  9. Whilst on holiday with a friend who recentley had a mole removed, she introduced me to Strataderm. My friend was using it for the scar from her procedure and told me it was working wonders. As I had bad scaring on my face due to acne and had probably tried about 5 different products (incl. Mederma) she highly recommended I try it. Because of bad experience with previous products I asked my dermatologist and he told me the product is brand new, very good, made in Switzerland, and gave me a free sample. I bought some in the pharmacy and I am truly amazed at the results. I have been using Strataderm gel for 6 weeks now and the improvement in my skin is amazing, you would never know I had suffered from acne. I'm also confident enough to go out without make-up now which was a no go area for me. This product is brilliant and I would recommend it to anyone with scarring they wish to banish :)

  20. I have used Mederma in the past for my acne scars, but it didn't seem to help much. Finally got rid of them using simple lemon juice with rose water (50-50)

  21. There's been so much good stuff written about Bio Oil. I have yet to try it myself. I have, however, tried Palmer's and I was soooo not impressed. Never again!

  22. I work for a board certified plastic surgeon

Mederma is usually what he recommends to his patients BUT some of them experience an adverse reaction to the cream, like redness, itching and having it not help at all.

For those patients, he recommends the Dr. Max Powers Scar Serum since it is organic and chemical free, which means its hypoallergetic. Most healthy people who do not want to use Mederma use the Dr. Max Scar Serum. If you have a reaction to Mederma, then discontinue use, and try the Dr. Max Powers Scar Serum

Scars that are pink are still healing, so using sunscreen is also VERY important. Scars turn white when they have finished healing.

Wishing you a smooth recovery! :)
